We are a 65 acre, organic farm with rolling hills that creates a dynamic landscape for growing food and community; from the forests where we grow mushrooms and get fuel, to the ponds that attract swans and provide us with water. The farm is filled with life throughout the year, from farming activities to member events. We are located in Schomberg which is 20 minutes north of Vaughan and Brampton, giving our rural space a unique proximity to these urban centers. Our goal is to produce year-round food for our community. We have worked towards that strategy by planting vegetables, shrubs, tree and other perennials. We have chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep and a donkey, two dogs, and a cat that all work daily on the farm. Everyone has their place, and we try to improve the relationships between everything here, including the animals, nature, and people. We are looking for 2 interns from May to October. We also manage a vineyard of organic table grapes in Niagara. ManoRun Organic Farm is primarily a vegetable production farm selling Community Shared Agriculture memberships and at 2 farmers markets. Everdale’s Sustainable Farming Certificate We will have a number of different options available for the 2018 season! The full program is offered in three parts. You can apply for one, two, or all three parts.     Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture – A four-week on-farm curriculum with field demonstrations and structured learning activities. Field Training – A four-week practicum period. Apprenticeship – A twenty four-week paid apprenticeship as a farm assistant at Everdale farm. Everdale is a mixed organic vegetable farm growing on approx. 7 acres.  We sell mainly through farmers markets and a subscription type program.  Vegetable production is the main focus of the SFC program.  However, in addition to the vegetables, there is a small flock of sheep on site, usually chickens, and sometimes pigs and turkeys.  We also have a very vibrant youth education program on the farm that sees thousands of school aged children visit the property every year. Persephone Market Garden is 100 acres forest, swamp, meadows and market garden, located between Owen Sound and Sauble Beach. Kristine is the primary farmer, supported by Thorsten and our children Oskar and Marilla. We started market gardening in 2009 and production has grown from 0.75 acres to 1.5 acres. We market through a Community Shared Agriculture program, with a delivery season of 20 weeks (June – October), Eat Local Grey Bruce Cooperative (online farmers market), and direct to restaurants. We primarily use a walk-behind tractor and hand tools, though we do have a larger tractor for some jobs (like turning the compost). Crop rotation and intercropping are our primary pest (weed, disease, insects) management strategies and our fertility management is based on integration with livestock (a flock of about 30 sheep), along with cover cropping. Over the years, we have developed a comprehensive farmer training program – trainees receive detailed crop plans, standard operating procedures that describe our production process form seeding to washing and packing, in-the-field training, as well as monthly workshops. Shared Harvest Community Farm and Learning Centre is looking to fill three internship positions. We are located in Dunnville Ontario. We are situated seconds from the Grand River and minutes from Lake Erie. Shared Harvest is in its second year of operation. We are operating an 80 member community shared agriculture (CSA) box program for 8 months. We will be processing food by dehydrating, freezing, canning, fermenting and pickling to stretch the share boxes well into the winter. We have a full kitchen for processing our produce. We are cultivating over 40 types of vegetables and close to 100 different varieties. We will have close to 7 acres of fields and mixed gardens under production. We are doing a lot of companion planting, raised bed building and we are planting a small orchard. We will also be doing as much seed saving as time permits. We will be raising chickens for eggs and sheep to mow the lawn and possibly to make some cheese for farm use! Requirements: We are looking for individuals who are have a strong work ethic, are self motivated and enthusiastic. The applicants should be physically fit and comfortable working long hours (8-10 hours/day 5 days a week) in a dynamic working environment with volunteers of all ages.
